About Sea-Watch
Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civil sea rescue of people on the move. In view of the humanitarian disaster in the central Mediterranean Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, demands and at the same time forces the rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.
We are currently looking for a Crew Operator to join our team, with a commitment of 30 hours per week, preferably in Berlin or remotely. The position is initially for 12 months with the wish for extension.
The Crewing team is responsible for managing the entire crew aboard our two ships. The team oversees recruitment processes, hiring procedures, feedback sessions, and long-term planning to ensure timely crew rotations.
Crew Operator
As a Crewing Operator you will be responsible for the recruitment process of the ship's maritime crew, as well as ongoing personnel management. Your tasks will include both administrative and organizational duties. You will also collaborate closely with all relevant departments to ensure the ships and crew are operationally ready.

Your tasks
- Managing the recruitment process, including posting job openings, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and making final hiring decisions
- Ensuring crew members have valid and up-to-date certifications and licenses as per regulatory standards
- Securing and forwarding of credentials and of personnel data into databases and relevant systems
- Ensuring that personnel data and documents are accurately maintained in the database and relevant lists are updated and shared with appropriate departments
- Assuming responsibility for crew members and acting as their point of contact
- Make crew schedule in agreement with crew members
- Support the personal and professional development of permanent crew members
- Engaging in regular communication with the crew, conducting feedback sessions and briefings on operational and organizational matters
- Identifying needs and conflicts early, resolving obstacles, proposing solutions, and making decisions
- Planning crew turnover dates and coordinating ticket bookings with crew members
Anforderungen
Your profile
- Proven experience the maritime industry, preferably in HR related jobs
- You are able to operate in compliance with international maritime standards
- Familiarity with STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) requirements
- Identification with the goals and vision of Sea-Watch e.V. (https://sea-watch.org/ueber-uns/ziele/)
- Solid knowledge of recruitment, interview processes, and personnel development
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with a structured and independent approach
- Proactive in handling unknown and changing challenges, with resilience and assertiveness
- Ability to mediate between different interests and a goal-oriented approach to problem-solving
- Demonstrated initiative, dedication, and flexibility
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
- Familiarity with maritime topics
